Phacus sp.

A new entry in my collection. This Euglenozoa is so green due to the presence of chloroplasts that function as a personal solar energy factory.

Phacus was originally described in 1841. The taxonomy of this organism is extremely complex. Currently more than 300 species have been described. Of these, around 170 have been accepted taxonomically.

Chloroplasts follow longitudinal lines, the bright red eyespot is present near the invagination of the flagellum. We can't see the flagellum from the magnification and light conditions, but it is thanks to it that Phacus moves slowly as we see it here. I'll try again.

Nature is amazing!
